Post-Graduate Certificate in Education - The University of East Anglia The PGCE ‘M’ course is structured so that on first placement, and in the University during the first term, the focus is on work within the classroom. During the second term, the focus in school broadens to look at whole school and wider issues. For additional information regarding the length of placements please refer to the Guidance Calendar in the handbook provided by the UEA.

The university course provides you with some idea of what to expect standing at the front of a classroom before you have to do it for real! Having a basic knowledge of pupils’ learning styles, ideas for classroom activities, planning trips, teaching and classroom management techniques gained whilst at university was a definite advantage. It allowed me to be more prepared for the task of teaching the lesson than if I had simply arrived in a school and found myself at the front of a classroom. (Science PGCE Student, 2008-2009) The structure of the course means that you are not ‘thrown in at the deep end’ and have plenty of time to prepare for that nerve wracking first entrance into the classroom. I chose to become a teacher for a new career, and found the seminars and lectures that form part of the PGCE course a refreshing change from office life. (English PGCE Student 2008-2009) |
